MEXICO U20 WNT CONCACAF SUCCESS

  • March 13, 2020
It was a very successful CONCACAF U20 tournament for the Mexico U20, as two Slammers FC alumni, Destinee Manzo and Gabby Juarez, helped the team reach the final of the tournament.

It was a clean sweep in pool play with three wins vs Puerto Rico (2-1), Nicaragua (4-0) and Guyana (3-0). Both girls played pivotal parts on the latter two pool play games, with Gabby (pictured above) getting 2 goals vs Nicaragua and Destinee getting three assists in the two games. An easy R16 vs Grenada saw a 12-1 win, including a goal from Gabby and another two assists from Destinee (pictured below). Into the Quarter Finals now and 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago, where both girls got on the score sheet with one goal each. The semi final was a nail biter and went all the way to PKs. Gabby got the assist in the game, which finished 1-1, and then scored the 4th PK in a 4-2 win.
Although they fell short in the final vs the US, they did play that game against two former team mates in Jenna Nighswonger and Kennedy Wesley, which was awesome for the entire club to see all four girls on the field at the same time!
